Are there steps you can take to deepen your faith?
I still remember lying on the operating table a few months ago, getting ready to “go under.” I had been cheerful and optimistic until that moment. Then, out of nowhere, I got panicked at the idea that I might never wake up. Immediately, these words flooded my mind…
I hear the Savior say, thy faith indeed is small. Child of weakness watch and pray. Let Me be thine all in all.
Faith is a process that starts with new life in Christ and grows as we experience various trials. However, faith building doesn’t always come from hardship. There are things we can do; actions we can take- and you might be surprised at how simple they are.
#1: Laugh More
This probably sounds like the furthest thing from faith building, but learning to laugh, by not taking things so seriously, is a huge step towards trust. God’s got this!
*Next time you are burdened with worry or doubt, offer it up to God with a great big smile. He’s got it all under control.
#2: Believe Well
This may seem simplistic, but do we really believe the Lord will do what He says He will do? Let our declaration be, “I believe! Lord, help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:23-24)
*Are you certain of God’s promises? If not, look for them in the Scriptures and memorize them. It is crucial for us to KNOW what the Lord promises to those who love Him.
#3: Get Secretive
Entering into that secret, quiet place is like pouring water over a dry and thirsty land. “For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God.” (Hebrews 6:7 NKJV)
*Go to your “prayer closet” and be completely vulnerable before God. Let everything fall away as you take in His presence, allowing Him to strengthen your faith.
#4: Remeber Immanuel
Immanuel is my favorite Name of God. Immanuel…God with us. Will you read that again? There is no greater way to boost our faith than to remember He is with us!
*When you feel a bit lost and alone, call upon Immanuel and know He is with you!
#5: Open Up
In the words of Anne of Green Gables, find a “bosom friend.” Being vulnerable with a trusted friend who loves the Lord, allows the sharpening of faith.
*Do you have someone who will listen with compassion, yet speak the truth in love? Find that friend who will be authentic, honest and real.
I awoke from that surgery…
surprised that it was over, feeling relieved and a deep sense of peace. I suppose it’s because I knew that no matter what, God had me. Even in my moment of little faith, He had every detail covered.
Be encouraged today as you consider these 5 tips to build your faith. I would love to know which one you are willing to try as you move forward on this journey called life.
