jog-595995_1280Ever tried to walk around with something in your shoe? It hurts, pinches, irritates and bruises.  Not unlike our issues…

Pride, Anger, Discontentment, and all the other issues we deal with get stuck in our lives like rocks in our running shoes.

Once when my son was little, we were walking around the store and he kept complaining about his foot hurting.  We took his shoe off and didn’t find anything, so we put it back on and kept walking around.  Still, he insisted something was hurting.  Again, we removed the shoe, turned it upside down, shook it, and put it back on.  It wasn’t until we got home that we found a little plastic dinosaur lodged in the toe!  Poor kid!!!

So often, we limp around in our issues because we think there is nothing wrong.  We can’t find the source of it all, so we keep going even though it hurts us and others.

What rocks are hindering your walk today?  Persistent anger or resentment? Pride or Oppression?  Remember…our issues were never intended to be a part of who we were created to be.  You don’t have to keep walking around with that plastic dinosaur in your shoe!

Life is hard.  We will all have unpleasant things to deal with until we reach the gates of heaven.  It’s just a part of our human existence.

But there has got to be a way to run this race without all-consuming hindrances, tripping us up at every turn!

“…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and let us run with perseverance the race marked our for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” ~Hebrews 12:1-2

How could Jesus possibly have looked to the cross with joy?  To know he would be tortured, spit upon, and crucified, yet approach it with joy?  How can it be?

You see, His perspective was so much bigger than ours.  He was seeing the Big picture of eternity, not only the temporary existence of today.

When I was a foreign exchange student in Belgium, my host father bestowed on me a lot of wisdom.  He encouraged me to broaden my focus from the all-American way to the wonderful opportunities in the wide, wide world.  My host Dad got me to realize there was so much more to life than cheeseburgers and apple pie.  (namely Belgian fries!)

There is something beyond this.  There is a place that is more of a home than this world could ever be.

It’s like looking forward to vacation on a beach in paradise.  The days leading up to it are full of anticipation and excitement.  There is joy in our step.

That is how our perspective should be on this earth!  For the joy set before us, (eternity with Jesus), we can live an abundant life here and now!

Our issues do not define us, do not consume us, and do not have to remain like a rock in our shoe.

Let me help you finally discard the things causing you to limp around in life.  Let me give you the resources to get you started on a journey of freedom.

Listen, I can only help you because I have carried just about every issue know to man.  At one point, I had to take off my running shoes and go barefoot!  Figuratively speaking, I had to take a good look at what was hurting when I walked.  I had to reach deep into the toe of the shoe and find the plastic dinosaur.  Enough was enough!
