Part 2 of Something We ALL Have But Don’t Want

Part 2 of Something We ALL Have But Don’t Want

Yep.  There’s something else we ALL have.

If you read my last post, it was all about our not-so-pretty issues.

Today it’s about that other thing… awful, ugly and definitely unwanted.
Condemnation…

Not even a good-looking word, is it?

Sometimes we think if we condemn ourselves enough it will surely get rid of the issues that bind us.

But what usually happens is we feel so poorly about ourselves, we get defeated and give up before any lasting change can take place.

Sound familiar?

Self-condemnation is an issue itself!  Add it to our anger, pride, or insecurity, and what we end up with is a BIG sorry mess.

Dear One, please don’t be so hard on yourself.

The Bible says, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” (Romans 8:1)

We have heard this again and again, but I’m afraid we tend to stop half-way through the sentence.

It’s true…there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ
but there is a second part.

There is no condemnation for those who walk according to the Spirit.

(Great.  That means every time I walk in my issues, which are certainly of the flesh, I am condemned.)

Nope.

Jesus took the condemnation for us, remember?  ALL OF IT.

His work on the cross tore the veil in two, and allowed us to stand before Him blameless.

But in gratitude and love for the One who took our condemnation, we do not settle for our issues.  We continuously make the decision to fight everything that sets itself up against our God.

Boy do we have a battle going on.  But it’s a battle that’s already been won.  We just need to make sure we’ve joined the troops on the right side.

Condemnation gets us nowhere in a hurry.

Following the Holy Spirit gets us everywhere in just the right time.

I have issues.  Lot’s of them.  But today I am deciding that self-condemnation isn’t going to be one of them.

How about you?
